Spring high tides in Parkgate this weekend (Friday 31st January - Sunday 2nd February 2014)
The spring high tides will be here this weekend which are always an impressive sight when the water comes right up to the Parade wall. Following the recent storms that we saw in December then many locals saw the tides wash in over the wall with some force, this weekend however they should be of a calmer nature (hopefully!). However it can sometimes mean that there are road cloures depending on the height of the tide so just be aware of this if you are heading to parkgate this weekend to come and see the tides.
High tide details:
11.13am on Friday 31st January – 10.0m
12.00pm on Saturday 1st February – 10.2m
12.45pm on Sunday 2nd February – 10.2m
1.29pm on Monday 3rd February – 10.0m

Mostyn House School to be turned into residential homes - Mostyn House School has been an icon on the main street of Parkgate for over 150 years. After it closed in 2010 the buildings fell into disrepair, with the roof structure on one of building becoming so dangerous it needed propping, closing half of the main road. The PJ Livesey Group exchanged contracts late in 2012, and have recently submitted a planning application for the conversion of the school buildings into 48 converted units, supported by an enabling development of 44 new build units. They hope to start work in Summer 2013.

Parkgate marsh goes up in flames...

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said crews used beaters and hosereel jets to put the fire out by about 17:50 BST.
Police said the fire was believed to have been started deliberately. Read more...

Skydancer is an exciting new four-year project aimed at raising awareness and promoting the conservation of hen harriers in the north of England.
The Dee Estuary is a vital wintering ground for these amazing birds and is the best place to see them from October through to March
Most people have never seen a hen harrier, but once seen it is rarely forgotten. This bird is a beautiful, agile hunter, and its aerobatic sky dances are among the most awesome spectacles in nature.
Unfortunately, with only a handful of pairs still breeding successfully in England, the hen harrier is currently a species on the brink.
Come along to Parkgate to find out more about the hen harrier story and what you can do to help save hen harriers before it's too late!
Look for the RSPB Love Nature marquee along the main promenade at Parkgate where friendly staff and volunteers will be with telescopes and binoculars plus family activities, free information and more.
